Brittany of the House O'Rourke, the First of Her Name, Breaker of Interior Decor Rules and Mother of Two Baby Terrorists

Hi! Welcome! Nice to meet ya!

Welcome to the first ever blog post of, 85th + Austin. I literally have no idea why I am here or if this will even turn into a thing but here goes...  I suppose I should start out with an intro. I am the Wife to a stud, Dan, Danimal, Dan the Man, Mother to two baby terrorists, Addison + Ty, friend to some of the best, interior design wannabe, impulsive re-decorator, fitness enthusiast, dreamer and I am still figuring out the rest. Things I am not.. writer + blogger.  As we are all well aware, 2020 has been [insert expletive] of a year. I work in Sales for the Food + Beverage Industry and this year has been ASFSLIKJLKJLKJKJHFKKJ. I spent the year either being furloughed or just not as busy as I normally would be. I am a person that has to always have a goal or something to do so this year has been hard.   I've been searching, yearning for something, for the love of GOD anything, to keep my head busy. I am sure you are screaming SAME GIRL! through your screen. So here I am, Nov 2020 entering the blogging world.

Lets take a walk through my jealous worthy attempts of giving 2020 life shall we...  I have done workout programs, gained the Quarantine 15, lost the Quarantine 15, then gained the Quarantine 15 back again. I binged nearly every Netflix series, my favorite being, "Nailed It." I was convinced I could bake a cake from scratch and decorate better than anyone on the show which would then lead to me creating a successful small business from my newly found talent. Check out the 'Covid' cake I did for my husbands birthday. Lets just say the cake baking business isn't for the faint of heart and is a little harder than these shows make it out to be.

Lets see.. what else... my family had a stray kitten come along that we adopted as our porch cat. Jellybean stayed for a couple months, got us all attached (husband included, who by the way is deathly allergic), and then up and left without even leaving a note. Dan even made her a two-story, heated home. I was convinced this was going to be the start of O'Rourke Farms (we already have two goats, Billy + Gizmo). How cute, we become this cute little family, helping to raise the poor, homeless,  unfortunate animals of the neighborhood.  Purr-haps she will still show up one day but the paw-sibility of that happening dwindles more and more every day. I probably could have left that last sentence out but I am a sucker for puns #sorrynotsorry.

I slung some mud to a few Goodwill vases and lamps and thought maybe I can sell these on the FB Marketplace for people like me that can't afford to pay $400 for a ceramic table lamp but are too lazy to go to goodwill, pick up a $5 lamp and throw mud at it. Figuring out how to market this idea proved to be very hard. That then lead me to thinking, lets open an interior decor store. I mentioned this to my husband and he of course thought I was insane. Thank goodness he is the level headed of the two of us.

I think I have given you enough opportunities to be super jealous of what I made out of the year but in all honesty, I am super thankful for everything 2020 has given me. I have never spent more time or may never have as much time with my husband or kids as much as I did this year. I am so GRATEFUL. I was allowed, actually more like forced, into slowing down this year and took more time for myself. I spent time in the sun, went for long walks, went for picnics,  got facials to reverse the effects of spending so much time in the sun. I am so THANKFUL. Most of all, I know I am fortunate when I say this, my family is healthy. I am so BLESSED.

What I hope to bring to this blog is light-hearted fun, mixed with DIY projects and whatever comes to mind that I think could be helpful. I am a hot mess so welcome to my hot mess of a life, enjoy the ride!
